The Chinese mainland has strongly criticized Lai Ching-te, the leader of the Taiwan region, for his recent speech promoting “Taiwan independence.” On Monday, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, condemned Lai’s remarks as a blatant attempt to incite confrontation across the Taiwan Strait.
“His speech was filled with lies, deception, hostility, and provocation,” Chen stated. “Lai is deliberately distorting history and fabricating justifications for his separatist agenda, serving only his selfish political ambitions.”
Chen accused Lai of undermining peace and stability in the region through his separatist rhetoric. “By advancing a ‘Taiwan independence’ manifesto, he exposes his true nature as an obstinate advocate of separatism,” the spokesperson added.
The Chinese mainland reiterated its commitment to peaceful reunification and urged residents of Taiwan to see through Lai’s narrative. “We call on the people in Taiwan to recognize the dangers of these actions and to work towards the shared prosperity of both sides of the Strait,” Chen concluded.
