China Calls for Genuine Middle East De-escalation in Talks with Iran

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for genuine de-escalation in the Middle East, emphasizing China’s support for Iran’s efforts to safeguard national sovereignty and security. In a phone conversation on Tuesday with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Wang stressed the importance of achieving a true ceasefire and restoring normal life for people in the region as soon as possible.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated that China is willing to promote the United Nations Security Council in fulfilling its role of maintaining international peace and security. He expressed hope that Iran would continue to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions, personnel, and diplomatic missions in the country.

For his part, Araghchi expressed concern over what he described as dangerous actions by Israel and the United States, claiming that attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities constitute serious violations of international law. He stated that these actions leave Iran with no choice but to respond and that genuine negotiations can only begin once Israel halts its aggression.

The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed Iran’s willingness to maintain close communication with China and looked forward to China’s greater role in easing regional tensions.
