China Media Group (CMG) President Shen Haixiong met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) Honorary President for Life Thomas Bach and newly elected IOC President Kirsty Coventry in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Monday. The leaders discussed strengthening their strategic partnership and exploring innovative approaches to event broadcasting.
Shen congratulated Bach on his appointment and applauded Coventry on assuming her new role. He highlighted the remarkable outcomes achieved through CMG’s cooperation with the IOC, emphasizing their close partnership and shared successes in copyright agreements, event broadcasting, signal production, and cultural exchange.
“CMG looks forward to continuing our close cooperation under President Coventry’s leadership,” Shen stated. “We aim to strengthen our role in international sports event signal production and deliver exceptional audiovisual experiences to global audiences.”
Shen also expressed CMG’s interest in exploring the application of AI technology in sports communication and the development of the e-sports industry, aiming to promote the Olympic spirit and deepen its influence among the public.
Bach expressed gratitude for CMG’s long-term support of the Olympic Movement and its outstanding contributions to sports broadcasting and cultural exchange. “CMG continues to innovate and produce spectacular sports broadcasts and cultural programs, immersing global audiences in the vibrant world of sports and culture,” he said.
Coventry shared her excitement over the strong viewership in China who watched her inauguration ceremony broadcast live by CMG. “The IOC regards CMG as a key partner,” she noted. “Our collaboration will continue to drive the development of the Olympic Movement.”
She expressed her eagerness to deepen cooperation with CMG in areas like digitalization, technological innovation, and sustainable development, with the goal of promoting Olympic values and advancing the Movement toward higher-quality development.
Following the meeting, Coventry gave her first media interview since taking office to CMG’s “Leaders Talk” program, marking a significant milestone in her new role as IOC President.
