China and Mozambique Celebrate 50 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Beijing, China — Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi exchanged warm congratulations on Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Mozambique.

President Xi highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations, emphasizing that over the past five decades, China and Mozambique have trusted and supported each other through changing international landscapes. “Our friendship remains rock-solid,” Xi said. He expressed confidence that the bilateral ties will continue to flourish as both countries uphold their shared ideals and move forward together.

Xi noted his commitment to strengthening China-Mozambique relations, stating his willingness to work with President Nyusi to deepen cooperation under initiatives like the Belt and Road and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. “Together, we can write a new chapter in our comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership,” he remarked.

President Nyusi, in his message, acknowledged that the anniversary coincides with Mozambique’s own 50th year of independence, underscoring the profound bond between the two nations. He expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support during Mozambique’s struggle for independence. “China’s unconditional support has been instrumental in our journey,” Nyusi said.

Reaffirming Mozambique’s commitment to the one-China principle, President Nyusi pledged support for China’s efforts toward national reunification and endorsed major initiatives proposed by China. “We are eager to deepen our bilateral relations and expand practical cooperation based on mutual respect and win-win outcomes,” he stated. Nyusi also emphasized the importance of jointly defending multilateralism and promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.

The 50th anniversary marks a significant milestone for both countries, showcasing a partnership built on mutual trust, respect, and shared goals for the future.
