China and Mozambique Celebrate 50 Years of Friendship and Cooperation

In an important milestone marking half a century of diplomatic relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas exchanged warm congratulations on Wednesday. The two nations celebrated 50 years of friendship, highlighting their commitment to deepening ties and cooperation.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the longstanding friendship between China and Mozambique. Over the past five decades, both countries have upheld principles of mutual respect and trust, consistently supporting each other on issues of core interests and major concerns.

“Bilateral cooperation in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and resources has yielded fruitful results,” Wang Yi said. He noted that China and Mozambique have maintained close coordination on international affairs, jointly safeguarding international fairness and justice.

Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas echoed these sentiments, expressing that the traditional friendship between Mozambique and China has grown stronger over the past 50 years. She highlighted the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership based on sincerity, equality, mutual respect, and trust.

“Regardless of changes in the international landscape, Mozambique will always consider China a brother and friend,” Lucas stated. She reaffirmed Mozambique’s firm commitment to the one-China principle and expressed willingness to learn from China’s experience in sustainable development.

Looking ahead, both ministers expressed eagerness to deepen cooperation across various sectors, enhance coordination on regional and global issues, and work together to defend multilateralism while promoting world peace and security.

This anniversary stands as a testament to the enduring bond between China and Mozambique, promising a future of continued partnership and shared prosperity.
