China’s UN Envoy Accuses US of Fueling Iran Nuclear Crisis, Calls for Peace Talks

China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has accused the United States of instigating the Iran nuclear crisis and escalating regional tensions. Speaking at a UN Security Council open meeting in New York on Wednesday, Fu highlighted concerns over recent actions by the US and Israel, including military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Fu stated that the US, as the initiator of the negotiation process with Iran earlier this year, has undermined its own efforts by withdrawing from agreements and imposing unilateral sanctions. He emphasized that these actions have led to a deadlock in the nuclear issue and heightened instability in the region.

“Iran’s sincerity in resolving the nuclear crisis should be valued,” Fu said. He noted that Iran continues to fulfill its nuclear non-proliferation obligations and has repeatedly stated it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons.

The Chinese envoy condemned the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, labeling them a serious violation of international law and a threat to the global non-proliferation regime. Fu urged all parties to reflect on the consequences of their actions and to return to the path of dialogue and negotiation.

“First and foremost, the fighting must stop,” he asserted. Fu called for practical measures to prevent further escalation and encouraged the international community to facilitate a peaceful settlement.

China supports efforts to relaunch negotiations and believes that diplomatic means have not been exhausted. Fu emphasized the importance of balancing nuclear non-proliferation goals with Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear energy under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a party to the Iran nuclear deal, China intends to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East. Fu called on all parties to act responsibly and urgently to de-escalate the situation and resume negotiations as soon as possible.
