In a move to enhance cross-strait ties, the Chinese mainland announced that first-time visitors from the Taiwan region will have their travel permit fees waived. This policy will be effective from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, revealed the decision during a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday. She stated that the initiative aims to facilitate greater exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
The policy was jointly decided by the Ministry of Finance, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the National Immigration Administration (NIA). The NIA will implement the specifics of this new measure.
This step reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen connections and promote mutual understanding across the Taiwan Strait.
