China and Senegal Pledge Stronger Ties for a Brighter Future

BEIJING — China and Senegal are gearing up to strengthen their partnership, aiming for a brighter future through enhanced cooperation. On Friday, Premier Li Qiang met with Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in Beijing, where both leaders expressed enthusiasm for deepening ties between their countries.

“Over the years, China and Senegal have respected each other and treated each other as equals,” said Premier Li. “Our mutual cooperation has been sincere and friendly, yielding fruitful results.”

Premier Li emphasized China’s willingness to enhance solidarity with Senegal, continuing mutual support and expanding practical cooperation. “We are ready to align our development strategies, promote quality and efficiency in various fields, and continuously enhance our momentum for development,” he added.

The discussion highlighted key areas for potential collaboration, including agricultural product processing, industrial parks, new energy, the digital economy, and information security. Premier Li encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Senegal and welcomed Senegalese businesses to promote their products in the Chinese market through platforms like the China International Import Expo.

Looking ahead to 2026, designated as the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, Premier Li expressed China’s eagerness to work with Senegal on cultural activities, deepening exchanges in culture, media, and think tanks to foster mutual understanding and friendship between their peoples.

Prime Minister Sonko praised China’s remarkable achievements in economic and social development. “Senegal sincerely appreciates the vigorous assistance provided by China over the years,” he said. “We are eager to maintain close high-level exchanges and promote cooperation in economy and trade, energy and mineral resources, finance, and agriculture under the Belt and Road Initiative.”

Sonko also expressed Senegal’s commitment to strengthening multilateral communication and cooperation with China, safeguarding multilateralism and international fairness, and protecting the common interests of the Global South.

The meeting signifies a strong commitment from both nations to walk hand in hand on the road to modernization, promising exciting developments for the future of China-Senegal relations.
