The Communist Party of China (CPC) has reached a historic milestone, surpassing 100 million members by the end of 2024, according to official data released by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.
The total membership now stands at 100.271 million, marking a 1.1% increase from the previous year. This growth reflects the CPC’s ongoing commitment to expanding its reach and influence throughout the nation.
The number of primary-level Party organizations has also seen significant growth, reaching 5.25 million—a net increase of 74,000 over the previous year. These grassroots organizations play a crucial role in implementing the Party’s policies and principles at the local level.
Emphasizing Diversity and Education
Female membership has risen to 30.995 million, accounting for 30.9% of the total—a 0.5-percentage point increase from last year. The proportion of ethnic minority members remains steady at 7.7%, with 7.734 million members. These figures highlight the CPC’s efforts to promote gender equality and national unity among all ethnic groups.
Education levels among Party members have significantly improved, with those holding junior college degrees or higher accounting for 57.6% of the total membership. This is a notable increase from 44.3% in 2015. The influx of educated professionals provides strong intellectual support for China’s advancements in science and technology.
A People-Centered Approach
The majority of CPC members are workers, farmers, technical professionals, and managers in enterprises and public sector organizations. Workers and farmers alone make up 32.7% of the total membership. This composition reinforces the CPC’s long-standing commitment to a people-centered approach and its identity as the vanguard of the working class.
This milestone underscores the CPC’s dedication to strengthening its organizational foundation and broadening its influence across various sectors of society.
