Lin Shengzhang’s Sculptures Bridge Fujian and Taiwan’s Youth

In the quiet village of Wulong on Dongshan Island, Fujian province, artist Lin Shengzhang breathes life into tradition. From his ancestral home, he sculpts intricate figurines, capturing the essence of historical icons like the legendary Guan Yu from the Three Kingdoms Period.

But Lin’s artistry doesn’t stop at ancient heroes. He also creates vibrant sculptures of contemporary figures from Taiwan, bridging the cultural gap between the Chinese mainland and the island of Taiwan.

Thanks to the “Mini Three Links” cross-Strait transport route, Lin’s creations have found their way into the hearts and homes of many in Taiwan. His cultural souvenirs have become cherished keepsakes, resonating with young people eager to connect with shared heritage.

“Art has no boundaries,” says Lin. “Through my sculptures, I hope to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation between the youths on both sides of the Strait.”

As Lin continues to carve stories into his sculptures, he not only preserves tradition but also builds a bridge of cultural exchange, bringing Taiwan and Fujian closer together through art.
