China has expressed its support for strengthening relations between Russia and Afghanistan’s interim government, marking a positive development in regional diplomacy.
At a press conference on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded to questions about Russia’s formal recognition of the Afghan interim government. “As a traditional friend and close neighbor of Afghanistan, China always believes that Afghanistan should not be excluded from the international community,” Mao stated.
Mao emphasized China’s encouragement for the international community to enhance engagement with Afghanistan. “We support the Afghan interim government in actively responding to international concerns, aiding Afghanistan in its reconstruction and development efforts, and combating violence and terrorism,” she added. “This will contribute positively to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.”
Despite changes in Afghanistan’s domestic and external situations, Mao noted that diplomatic ties between China and Afghanistan have remained uninterrupted. “Since the establishment of the Afghan interim government, both sides have played a positive role in maintaining the normal operation of diplomatic missions and promoting bilateral relations,” she said.
Looking ahead, China pledges to continue its policy of friendship toward all Afghan people and supports exchanges and cooperation in various areas. “We are dedicated to fostering peaceful development and mutual cooperation with Afghanistan,” Mao concluded.
