Wang Yi Stresses Roles of China and France in Global Stability

China and France Unite: Wang Yi Highlights Key Roles in Global Stability

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the crucial roles of China and France in maintaining global stability during a joint press conference with French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot on Friday.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the importance of the partnership between the two nations. He stated that China and France should act as forces for stability, openness, inclusiveness, and unity in a complex and turbulent international landscape.

Strengthening Strategic Communication

The foreign ministers held in-depth discussions on China-France and China-EU relations, reaching significant consensus. Wang Yi stressed that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, both countries should uphold the founding principles of the UN and contribute jointly to world peace and development.

Promoting Mutual Cooperation

Wang Yi called for enhanced cooperation between China and France, warning against the trend of weaponizing tariffs and disrupting global supply chains. He emphasized that building walls and barriers hampers competitiveness and harms common interests. China is ready to import more high-quality French products and encourages Chinese enterprises to invest in France.

Fostering People-to-People Exchanges

Highlighting the importance of cultural connections, Wang Yi announced plans to increase the number of French students studying in China to over 10,000 and to double European youth exchanges within the next three years. Both sides aim to enhance understanding and harmony through these initiatives.

Enhancing Multilateral Coordination

Wang Yi underscored the need for China and France to strengthen coordination in multilateral platforms like the United Nations. He expressed China’s willingness to work with France to maintain the international system with the UN at its core and to promote steady growth in China-EU relations.
