Chinese Embassy in Japan Urges Vigilance over Natural Disasters

Chinese Embassy Alerts Citizens in Japan to Natural Disaster Risks

Tokyo — The Chinese Embassy in Japan has issued a notice urging Chinese citizens in the country to stay vigilant against natural disasters, following a surge in seismic activity and the approach of Typhoon Mun.

The Tokara Island chain, located in Japan’s southwestern Kagoshima Prefecture, has been rattled by more than 1,000 felt earthquakes since June 21, according to local meteorological authorities. A significant tremor registering lower 6 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale of 7 struck on Thursday, raising concerns among residents and officials alike.

In response to the heightened seismic activity, Japanese authorities have advised inhabitants of Akusekijima, part of the Tokara Islands, to be prepared for immediate evacuation. On Friday, 13 residents from the village of Toshima on Akusekijima evacuated to Kagoshima Port by ship, as reported by local media.

Adding to the worries, Typhoon Mun is expected to move northward over the seas east of Japan, bringing potential heavy rains and strong winds. Additionally, scorching temperatures are forecast to persist across the country until September, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The embassy has called on Chinese nationals residing in or visiting Japan to enhance their awareness of natural disaster prevention. It emphasized the importance of staying updated on earthquake developments, weather warnings, and official alerts, and to evacuate to safe areas when necessary.

“Safety should always come first,” the embassy stated. “We urge all Chinese citizens in Japan to remain cautious and prepared during this period of increased natural disaster risk.”
