Shenzhen, Guangdong Province – Ten years ago, award-winning baker Liu Tianting and his wife, Huang Huijun, left Taiwan with a dream. They moved to Shenzhen, a vibrant city in the southern Greater Bay Area that encompasses Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, and Macao. Their goal: to turn their passion for baking into a thriving business.
The journey was anything but easy. The couple faced numerous challenges, from adapting to a new market to navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. “We’ve had our share of successes and failures,” Liu admits. “But through it all, we’ve found profound warmth and support here.”
That warmth has inspired them to give back to the community that embraced them. Now, Liu and Huang are offering free guidance to young people who aspire to open their own bakeries. “We want to help others achieve their dreams, just as we have,” Huang says with a smile.
Their story is featured in the documentary series “Diaries of Taiwan Youth,” which showcases the lives of young people from Taiwan making their dreams a reality in the Greater Bay Area. It’s a tale of perseverance, community, and the sweet rewards of following one’s passion.
“The Greater Bay Area is full of opportunities,” Liu says. “We hope our story encourages other young people to pursue their dreams here.”
As they continue to knead dough and shape the future of aspiring bakers, Liu and Huang exemplify the spirit of cooperation and the shared dreams of youth across regions.
