11th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations Kicks off

Global Scholars Unite at 11th Nishan Forum to Celebrate Cultural Diversity

The 11th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations kicked off on Wednesday in Qufu, Shandong Province, the birthplace of the legendary philosopher Confucius. Over the next two days, more than 500 guests from over 70 countries will explore how cultural diversity and modernization can harmoniously coexist.

With the theme “Beauty in Diversity: Nurturing Understanding Among Civilizations for Global Modernization,” the forum emphasizes the importance of preserving the world’s diverse cultures while pursuing peaceful global development.

The event covers a wide range of topics, including the origins and future of civilization, the contemporary relevance of Confucian culture, global modernization, family and social development, and the role of artificial intelligence in shaping humanity’s future.

Among the attendees are foreign dignitaries, representatives from international organizations, ambassadors, and global experts. Notable speakers at the opening ceremony included Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Vice President of the Republic of Maldives; Chhem Kieth Rethy, Senior Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia; and Jean Louis Robinson Richard, Madagascar’s ambassador to China.

In his opening remarks, Vice President Latheef highlighted the significance of embracing cultural differences. “Amid the wave of global modernization, it is essential to draw strength from our differences, recognize the beauty of diverse civilizations, and encourage mutual understanding among cultures,” he said.

Senior Minister Kieth Rethy emphasized that modernization should not come at the cost of forgetting one’s history. “Our ability to modernize responsibly depends on remembering our origins—understanding who we are, where we come from, and the values that will guide our future,” he stated.

Ambassador Robinson Richard applauded the forum for fostering global dialogue. “By hosting events like the Nishan Forum, China has created an important platform for deep dialogue among individuals from diverse nationalities, backgrounds, and cultures,” he noted. “This initiative has made an immeasurable contribution to global peace, fostering harmonious coexistence and shared prosperity.”

The Nishan Forum, named after the nearby Nishan Mountain, has become a crucial platform for understanding China, fostering cultural exchanges, and building consensus on global civilization. Rooted in the birthplace of Confucius, the forum invites participants to reflect on ancient wisdom while addressing contemporary challenges.
