A recent global survey reveals that young people across the world believe shared values and cultural exchange are key to achieving peace and development. Conducted by CGTN and Renmin University of China, the poll included 12,302 respondents from 41 countries, highlighting the crucial role of unity and mutual understanding in today’s turbulent times.
Embracing Diversity for a Better Future
An overwhelming 90.8% of participants agree that respecting the diversity of civilizations is fundamental to the international community. With global challenges on the rise, 90.2% believe that no nation can tackle these issues alone, emphasizing the need for collective effort.
Furthermore, 89.4% call for increased international cultural exchanges to foster mutual understanding among peoples. Young adults, particularly those aged 18 to 34, are especially supportive, with over 91% acknowledging that interactions among different cultures promote progress for humanity.
Innovation Meets Tradition
The survey highlights a strong belief in the balance between preserving cultural traditions and embracing innovation. A total of 88.5% of respondents state that cultural innovation and preservation are equally important. Additionally, 83.4% believe that every nation’s path to modernization should be rooted in its own cultural heritage.
Chinese modernization efforts have been recognized for enriching the global understanding of development. With 87.1% agreeing that modernization means rejuvenating traditions through innovation, the influence of cultural heritage on modern progress is clear.
China’s Growing Cultural Influence
Innovation stands out as a defining feature of Chinese culture for 60.6% of respondents. Technological advancements are particularly noted, with 77.2% emphasizing China’s tech developments over other cultural aspects. Digital media platforms, social media, and tech products are becoming powerful channels for sharing Chinese culture globally.
The survey indicates that 81.6% of participants observe a rapid rise in China’s global cultural influence and soft power. This sentiment is strongest among those aged 44 and below. Moreover, 75.4% acknowledge the significant contribution of Chinese civilization to the development of world civilizations.

Young people worldwide are voicing a desire for unity, respect, and collaboration. They recognize that embracing diversity and learning from each other are essential steps toward a peaceful and prosperous global community. As the world faces unprecedented challenges, the shared values of the younger generation offer hope for a better future.
