China and Egypt Unite to Safeguard Global Trade

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has announced China’s commitment to work closely with Egypt to safeguard global trade and promote international economic cooperation. During talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly on Thursday, Li emphasized the importance of defending the interests of developing countries and enhancing peace and stability in the Middle East and around the world.

“China has always prioritized developing relations with Egypt in its Middle East diplomacy,” Li stated. He highlighted the upcoming milestones in China-Egypt relations, including the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024 and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2026. Li expressed China’s willingness to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen strategic dialogue, and bolster practical cooperation with Egypt.

Li called for both nations to align their development strategies, expand investment within the framework of the Belt and Road cooperation, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges. “We should support each other on the path to modernization and bring greater benefits to our peoples,” he said.

The Chinese premier also underscored the importance of collaboration within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He expressed a desire to practice genuine multilateralism, safeguard economic globalization, and defend the common interests of developing countries.

Prime Minister Madbouly praised the strong and historic ties between Egypt and China. “Our traditional friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of our peoples,” he remarked. Madbouly affirmed Egypt’s commitment to the one-China principle, respect for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and support for China’s positions on issues related to Taiwan, Xizang, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Madbouly expressed gratitude for China’s assistance in Egypt’s economic and social development. He conveyed Egypt’s eagerness to expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, finance, infrastructure, new energy, and the green economy. “We aim to enhance people-to-people exchanges and achieve more in Africa-China and Arab-China cooperation,” he added.

He also commended China’s fair stance on Middle East issues and expressed readiness to strengthen coordination within international platforms like the United Nations and BRICS to uphold regional peace and stability.

Following their meeting, Li and Madbouly witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements in areas including e-commerce, green development, finance, and health.
