China is set to continue expanding its high-level opening-up to the world, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Friday, Mao emphasized that “closed exclusivity is not an option for China.”
Responding to media reports highlighting China’s visa-free policies—which contrast with tightening visa restrictions in some countries—Mao detailed the nation’s efforts to welcome more international visitors. “China now offers unilateral visa exemption to 47 countries and transit visa exemption to 55 countries,” she noted.
Mao also mentioned ongoing initiatives to streamline the visa application process. These include providing one-stop entry services and offering instant tax refunds for goods purchased upon departure from the Chinese mainland. “Foreign friends’ tours of China have become smoother,” she added.
Addressing concerns about global trade and cooperation, Mao stated, “Decoupling and disruption of industrial and supply chains and closed exclusivity are not options for China.” She reaffirmed China’s commitment to sharing opportunities and building a shared future with all countries. “China will continue to take actions to expand high-level opening up,” Mao said.
