The China Coast Guard announced on Friday that it had expelled a Japanese fishing vessel from the waters around Chiwei Yu, an island in the East China Sea. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the vessel entered China’s territorial waters without authorization.
According to Liu Dejun, a spokesperson for the China Coast Guard, authorities took “necessary control measures” by issuing warnings and driving the vessel away in accordance with the law.
Liu emphasized that Diaoyu Dao and its affiliated islands, including Chiwei Yu, are “China’s inherent territory.” He urged Japan to “immediately cease all illegal activities” in these waters.
“The China Coast Guard will continue to carry out law enforcement operations in waters under China’s jurisdiction to safeguard the country’s territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests,” Liu added.
