Tianjin, China — Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Friday urged members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to strengthen cooperation in the digital economy. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2025 SCO Digital Economy Forum, held in the northern city of Tianjin, Ding emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to embrace the opportunities presented by digitalization.
In his keynote speech, Ding highlighted the importance of accelerating the implementation of the consensus reached by the SCO Heads of State Council and the Global Digital Compact. He called for enhanced policy communication and the alignment of development plans among member states.
“We should make full use of platforms like the SCO Digital Economy Forum to inject vitality into the development of the digital economy,” Ding said. He advocated for boosting the connectivity of digital infrastructure, improving computing power, and building a high-quality Digital Silk Road.
Ding also stressed the significance of sharing achievements in digital technology innovation. “By enhancing the accessibility of digital economy benefits and promoting digital transformation, we enable all countries to tap into the fast track of digital economic development,” he noted.
Addressing concerns over digital security, the vice premier called for the joint construction of a multilateral and collaborative digital security governance system. He underscored the role of international cooperation in digital governance and expressed support for the United Nations in leading global digital governance and rule-making.
The forum, co-organized by the National Data Administration and the Tianjin municipal government, attracted approximately 600 participants. Attendees included government officials, business leaders, and scholars from academia and think tanks across SCO member states.
