Malaysian Pm Anwar Ibrahim Meets with Chinese Fm Wang Yi

Malaysia and China Strengthen Ties in Historic Meeting

Malaysia and China are taking their friendship to new heights. On Friday, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Putrajaya, marking a significant moment in the growing relationship between the two nations.

Anwar praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Malaysia, calling it a milestone in Malaysia-China relations. “President Xi’s vision for the future has earned the heartfelt respect of our government and people,” Anwar said. He emphasized how the fruitful cooperation between Malaysia and China has benefited the people of both countries.

The Malaysian Prime Minister also highlighted the growing importance of international groups like BRICS, noting that countries are pursuing independence and development. “China has played a leading role in this process, which Malaysia highly appreciates,” he added.

Wang Yi echoed these sentiments, stating that under the guidance of their leaders, China-Malaysia relations have entered the best period in their history. “China regards Malaysia as a sincere friend,” Wang said. “We are ready to work together to implement the important consensus reached by our leaders and to advance the building of a high-level, strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future.”

He also expressed China’s full support for Malaysia’s upcoming role as the rotating chair of ASEAN. “As developing countries and key representatives of the Global South, China and Malaysia should join hands to meet challenges and pursue revitalization and development together,” Wang stated.

Addressing global economic concerns, Wang criticized unilateral actions by certain countries. “The United States’ unilateral imposition of high tariffs is irresponsible and unpopular,” he noted. “China will always stand with developing countries, remain committed to opening up, and work together to expand the opportunities for win-win cooperation.”
