Ultraman’s Legacy Celebrated in Shanghai Exhibition
The iconic superhero Ultraman is gearing up for its 60th anniversary in 2026, and celebrations are already underway. A special themed exhibition has opened in Shanghai, marking a new chapter in China-Japan cultural collaboration.
Decades of Friendship and Cooperation
Masayuki Nagatake, president of Tsuburaya Productions—the company behind Ultraman—expressed his gratitude for the longstanding partnership with Chinese counterparts. “Ultraman conveys messages of courage, hope, and kindness,” he said. “These universal values resonate with audiences across generations.”
Boosting Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges
In a move to enhance cross-cultural ties, China has announced the waiver of visa requirements for passport holders from Japan and eight other countries, effective November 30, 2024. This initiative aims to promote inbound tourism, facilitate business interactions, and enrich people-to-people exchanges.
Looking Ahead: A Year of Cultural Exchange
Further strengthening regional connections, China, Japan, and South Korea have jointly designated 2025 and 2026 as the China-Japan-South Korea Cultural Exchange Year. This collaborative effort is expected to deepen mutual understanding and foster a shared future in East Asia.
A New Era of Collaboration
The Ultraman exhibition in Shanghai not only celebrates a beloved hero but also symbolizes the enduring friendship between China and Japan. As both nations embrace opportunities for cultural synergy, young people stand at the forefront of shaping a more interconnected world.
