As the Minjiang River shimmered under the lights of Fuzhou City, American student Robin Van Cott gazed in awe from the deck of a night cruise. Captivated by the breathtaking view, she began sketching the skyline as the city drifted by.
Van Cott, a member of the Utah Valley Choral Scholars, is visiting the Chinese mainland to participate in the 2025 China-US Youth Choir Festival. The festival brings together young musicians from both countries to promote cultural exchange through music.
The night cruise along the Minjiang River is a highlight for many visitors to Fuzhou, offering panoramic views of the city’s modern architecture and historic sites illuminated at night.
Through events like the China-US Youth Choir Festival, participants have the opportunity to explore local traditions, cuisine, and landmarks, fostering deeper understanding between cultures.
For Van Cott, the experience of sketching Fuzhou’s vibrant nightscape was a memorable moment, encapsulating the spirit of exploration and connection that the festival encourages.
