Chinese Fm Attends Asean Regional Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting

China’s Wang Yi Advocates for Peaceful Asia-Pacific at ASEAN Forum

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, urging for peace, stability, and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Wang highlighted the importance of maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, crucial for the region’s development. He emphasized that this stability should be cherished and protected.

At the meeting, Wang presented China’s vision to ensure steady development in the Asia-Pacific. He proposed a framework of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security. This includes building a balanced and effective security architecture and fostering an Asian security model centered on dialogue and consultation.

“We need to find a new path to security that favors dialogue over confrontation, partnership over alliance, and win-win rather than zero-sum outcomes,” Wang said.

He cautioned against creating divisions and opposed a zero-sum game mentality. Wang urged efforts to address both the symptoms and root causes of conflicts and wars, promoting harmony and coexistence based on Eastern wisdom.

Drawing inspiration from the Bandung Spirit, Wang called for accommodating the legitimate security concerns of all parties. He expressed China’s willingness to work with regional countries to bridge differences through dialogue and consultation, injecting vitality into confidence-building measures and preventive diplomacy within the ARF.
