China Defends Military Aircraft Approach After Japan Complaint

China Defends Air Maneuvers After Japan’s Complaint

The Chinese government has pushed back against Japan’s claims that Chinese military planes flew dangerously close to Japanese aircraft. Officials in Beijing insist that their actions were legal and professional.

On Sunday, Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defense, addressed the issue. He stated that a Japanese intelligence-gathering plane had been conducting repeated surveillance near China’s airspace over the East China Sea.

“Chinese aircraft acted according to the law to identify, track, and monitor the Japanese planes,” Jiang said. “Our response was entirely legitimate, reasonable, and conducted in a professional and standard manner.”

Jiang pointed out that Japanese military vessels and aircraft engaging in close reconnaissance create security risks for both countries. “We urge the Japanese side to collaborate with China to promote a stable and positive relationship,” he added.

This exchange is the latest in ongoing tensions between China and Japan over territorial disputes in the East China Sea. Young people across the Global South are watching how these regional dynamics unfold, understanding their impact on global peace and cooperation.
