China’s basketball prodigy Zhang Ziyu is set to make her international debut in a major senior tournament as she leads China’s roster for the upcoming FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. The announcement was made on Saturday, exciting fans across the nation.
Standing at an impressive 2.26 meters tall, the 18-year-old sensation dominated last year’s FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup, averaging 35 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. Her stellar performance not only propelled China to the finals but also earned her the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
Zhang will join forces with Han Xu, the MVP of the previous Women’s Asia Cup in 2021, solidifying a formidable center position for the team. The roster also features talents like Wang Siyu, Li Yuan, Yang Liwei, Yang Shuyu, Zhang Ru, Luo Xinyu, Jia Saiqi, Huang Sijing, Pan Zhenqi, and Zhai Ruoyun.
The FIBA Women’s Asia Cup will be held in Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province, from July 13 to 20. China, placed in Group A, will face off against South Korea, New Zealand, and Indonesia. The team will kick off their title defense against Indonesia on Sunday, aiming to bring home the championship once again.
Basketball fans are eagerly anticipating Zhang Ziyu’s debut on the international stage, hopeful that her talent will shine and inspire a new generation of players.
