China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, met with Jonathan Powell, the British prime minister’s national security adviser, in Beijing on Monday. The meeting aimed to enhance strategic communication and cooperation between China and the United Kingdom.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, emphasized that under the strategic guidance of both countries’ leaders, China-UK relations are on a path of improvement and development. He noted that this progress fulfills the aspirations of both peoples and aligns with global trends.
Expressing appreciation for Britain’s proposal to develop a consistent, lasting, and mutually respectful relationship, Wang Yi stated that China is willing to work with the UK to inject new momentum into bilateral ties. He highlighted the importance of expanding strategic cooperation from a broader perspective to jointly promote world peace, stability, and prosperity.
Jonathan Powell conveyed the UK’s readiness to enhance dialogue and communication with China. He expressed a desire to build a stable, practical, and long-term partnership between the two nations.
The two sides also exchanged views on international issues of mutual concern, signaling a shared commitment to addressing global challenges through cooperation.
