China Urges Us to Lift Blockade and Sanctions Against Cuba

China Calls on U.S. to Lift Sanctions and Blockade Against Cuba

Beijing, China — China has urged the United States to immediately lift its longstanding blockade and sanctions against Cuba. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized China’s firm opposition to the U.S.’s unilateral sanctions and interference in Cuba’s internal affairs under the pretext of human rights.

Lin highlighted the profound suffering inflicted on the Cuban people due to over 60 years of comprehensive blockade and illegal sanctions by the U.S. He stated, “Sanctions should be lifted immediately instead of being intensified.”

The spokesperson reaffirmed China’s steadfast support for Cuba in choosing a development path that suits its national conditions and in safeguarding its sovereignty and dignity. He called on the U.S. to remove Cuba from its list of “state sponsors of terrorism.”

“If the U.S. side truly cares about human rights, it should reflect on its own record of human rights violations in Guantanamo, Cuba, and around the world over the years,” Lin added, pointing to controversies surrounding U.S. actions globally.

The call from China comes amid ongoing debates about international sanctions and their impacts on ordinary citizens. Many young people in the Global South are closely watching these developments, understanding that such international policies can have significant effects on economies and societies worldwide.
