Sweltering heat is gripping southwest China as Chongqing Municipality and Chengdu City issue high-temperature alerts, with forecasts predicting temperatures soaring up to 40 degrees Celsius.
The Chengdu Meteorological Observatory issued a high-temperature orange alert—the second-highest level—at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to exceed 38 degrees Celsius across multiple districts this afternoon, with the heatwave projected to persist for three days.
Meanwhile, Chongqing Municipality escalated to a red alert, the highest warning, at 11:30 a.m. Temperatures in 34 districts and counties under its administration are anticipated to surpass 40 degrees Celsius today, while seven additional areas expect temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius.
Authorities in both cities have rolled out precautionary measures, including critical fire prevention protocols for forests, tourist sites, and power facilities. Residents are urged to minimize outdoor activities to avoid heatstroke.
