Chinese Defense Ministry Denounces Japans china Threat Hype

China Criticizes Japan’s Defense White Paper for ‘China Threat’ Claims

The Chinese defense ministry has voiced strong opposition to Japan’s recently released 2025 defense white paper, which labels China as “the unprecedented biggest strategic threat to Japan” and makes comments on the Taiwan question.

Jiang Bin, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, condemned Japan’s actions on Wednesday, stating that Japan is hyping up the so-called “China threat” and interfering in China’s internal affairs.

Jiang noted that Japanese militarism in the last century caused immense suffering to China and other Asian nations. Instead of reflecting on its past wrongdoings, Japan is exhibiting a dangerous trend by increasing its defense budget, lifting restrictions on weapons exports, and forming military alliances that could lead to regional confrontation. He also expressed concern over discussions to amend Japan’s “Three Non-Nuclear Principles.”

“These actions gravely contravene Japan’s pacifist constitution and its exclusively defense-oriented policy,” Jiang stated. “They severely undermine the post-war international order and pose serious challenges to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.”

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s recovery. Jiang emphasized that Taiwan’s return to China in 1945 was a significant outcome of World War II and an integral part of the post-war international order.

He urged Japan to reflect on history, abide by the spirit of the four China-Japan political documents, honor its commitments regarding the Taiwan question, and take tangible steps to promote the healthy and stable development of China-Japan relations.
