China Pledges Continued Support for Iran’s Sovereignty

China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Iran in safeguarding its national sovereignty and dignity. During a meeting in Tianjin on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional issues.

Wang emphasized China’s willingness to work with Iran as comprehensive strategic partners. He stated, “China supports Iran in resisting power politics and bullying, and in defending its legitimate rights and interests through political negotiation.” He also highlighted the importance of deepening mutual trust, strengthening cooperation, and promoting the steady development of China-Iran relations.

Araghchi expressed gratitude for China’s invaluable support and praised China’s role in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). He voiced Iran’s readiness to enhance high-level exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and continue to firmly support each other.

The two officials also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue. Araghchi reaffirmed that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons but will not abandon its right to peaceful nuclear energy. He stated Iran’s willingness to resume negotiations with all parties to seek a political solution based on equality and respect.

Wang acknowledged Iran’s commitment and stressed China’s opposition to the use of force. “China values Iran’s pursuit of peace through diplomatic means and supports maintaining the momentum of dialogue with all parties,” he said. “We are willing to continue playing a constructive role in promoting the settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue and ensuring stability in the Middle East region.”
