China’s Wang Yi and SCO Secretary-General Discuss Regional Cooperation in Tianjin

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), on Wednesday in Tianjin to bolster regional peace and development.

Wang Yi praised the SCO’s significant role in maintaining regional stability and promoting mutual growth among member nations. He highlighted the organization’s contributions to fostering a new type of international relations and building a community with a shared future for humanity.

“Under the leadership of Secretary-General Yermekbayev, we believe the SCO Secretariat will enhance its efficiency and influence,” Wang said. “Since assuming the rotating presidency, China has hosted over 90 events, promoting cooperation across various fields.”

He expressed hope that the Secretary-General would continue to support China’s presidency and work together toward a successful and united summit in Tianjin.

Yermekbayev commended China’s efforts since taking over the SCO presidency, noting that cooperation among all parties has reached new heights. “The Secretariat will fully support China’s work and jointly prepare for the Tianjin summit to ensure fruitful outcomes,” he affirmed.
