China Says Us fentanyl Tariffs Undermine Anti drug Cooperation

China Criticizes U.S. ‘Fentanyl Tariffs,’ Calls for Fair Dialogue

China has expressed concern over the United States’ insistence on imposing what it calls ‘fentanyl tariffs,’ stating that such actions undermine cooperation in combating drug trafficking. At a regular press briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized the U.S. approach, emphasizing that it jeopardizes efforts to address drug-related issues collaboratively.

‘Fentanyl is a problem rooted in the United States, not in China,’ Lin stated. ‘The responsibility lies with the U.S. side, and ignoring China’s goodwill only hampers our joint efforts against drug trafficking.’

Lin highlighted that the U.S. tariffs on fentanyl-related substances hinder dialogue and damage China’s interests. He called on the United States to engage in discussions based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit. ‘If the U.S. truly wishes to cooperate with China, it should face the objective facts and seek dialogue founded on mutual respect,’ he added.

Fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, has been at the center of discussions between China and the U.S., with both nations seeking to curb its illicit production and distribution. China’s stance underscores the need for collaborative efforts without unilateral actions that could strain bilateral relations.
