China has called on the Philippines to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of Chinese students studying in the country. The appeal comes amid concerns over a deteriorating security situation and an increase in criminal activities targeting Chinese citizens.
At a regular press briefing on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that the Chinese government issued an overseas study alert as a responsible measure to protect its students abroad.
“We urge the Philippines to take tangible actions to safeguard the safety, dignity, and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese students in the Philippines,” Lin said.
China’s Ministry of Education advised students to assess the security risks of studying in the Philippines and to heighten their awareness of personal safety.
The alert follows reports of rising public security issues in the Philippines, with Chinese citizens increasingly becoming targets of crime.
The situation has raised concerns among families and students considering studying in the Philippines. Authorities hope the warning will prompt both students to take precautions and the Philippine government to address the safety concerns.
The Philippines is a popular destination for Chinese students seeking higher education opportunities. Ensuring their safety is crucial for maintaining educational and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
