Mayors and representatives from cities around the world convened in Qingdao, a coastal city in east China’s Shandong Province, on Saturday to explore shared opportunities in cultural tourism and strengthen sister city ties.
Delegates from cities such as Regensburg in Germany, Piraeus in Greece, and Shimonoseki in Japan joined the event, focusing on enhancing maritime tourism, revitalizing historic urban centers, and promoting international tourism and cultural exchange.
“Our cities share rich maritime histories and cultural heritages,” said a representative from Piraeus. “By collaborating, we can create new opportunities for our people and foster greater understanding across borders.”
The conference aimed to foster dialogue and collaboration across culture, tourism, and industry sectors, highlighting the importance of global cooperation in the modern world.
Participants discussed strategies to boost tourism in their cities, leveraging their unique cultural assets to attract visitors and stimulate economic growth.
Qingdao, known for its picturesque coastal scenery and historic architecture, served as an inspiring backdrop for the discussions.
“By sharing our experiences and ideas, we can learn from each other and work together to build a more connected and vibrant global community,” said a Qingdao city official.
The gathering underscores the growing emphasis on cultural tourism as a means to bridge cultures and promote sustainable development worldwide.
