Japan has retained the Women’s Softball Asia Cup title after heavy rain led to the cancellation of the final and bronze medal games in Xi’an, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. With the finals rained out, the final rankings were determined based on the preliminary standings.
The world’s top-ranked team, Japan, dominated the round-robin stage with an impeccable 9-0 record, showcasing their prowess on the field. Hosts China secured second place with an impressive 8-1 record, clinching a crucial 8-4 victory over Chinese Taipei on Saturday. Chinese Taipei finished third with a 7-2 record, while the Philippines claimed fourth place at 6-3.
The top three teams—Japan, China, and Chinese Taipei—have earned their spots in the 2026 Women’s Softball World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the Czech Republic, Peru, and the United States. The tournament promises to bring together the best teams from around the globe, and these Asian powerhouses are set to make their mark.
The competition in Xi’an also served as a qualifier for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. South Korea, China’s Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, and Thailand will join the top four teams in earning spots at the prestigious event, highlighting the growing popularity and competitiveness of softball across Asia.
