Beijing — The Beijing municipal government has upgraded its rainstorm warning to a yellow alert, the third-highest level, and activated a citywide flood-control emergency response on Thursday.
The Beijing Meteorological Observatory forecasts heavy rainfall from 5 p.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday. Some districts could experience hourly precipitation exceeding 50 millimeters. The alert warns residents of potential mountain torrents, mudslides, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The city’s flood control office initiated the third-level response at 11 a.m., urging the public to take precautions against short-term heavy rainfall and possible secondary disasters. Hydrological and meteorological authorities have jointly issued waterlogging and mountain flood warnings for specific areas.
Authorities advise residents to avoid waterlogged zones and stay clear of mountainous regions prone to floods and landslides. Emergency services are on high alert to respond to any incidents arising from the severe weather conditions.
This weather event comes as part of the annual monsoon season, which often brings heavy rains to the region. Officials emphasize the importance of community preparedness and adherence to safety guidelines during this period.
