China has declared a “zero tolerance” policy on the smuggling of strategic minerals, stepping up efforts to safeguard national security and interests. At a press conference on Thursday, He Yadong, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, announced that authorities have taken strong actions against illegal export cases in the past two months.
He reported that multiple smuggling suspects have been apprehended, resulting in a significant deterrent effect. “The current situation remains complex and serious,” He said, highlighting that criminals are attempting to circumvent regulatory measures, increasing the risk of illegal technology leakage.
The spokesperson emphasized the need for persistent and in-depth action. “Relevant departments have strengthened coordination and will continue to maintain a strict, high-pressure stance against the smuggling of strategic minerals,” he stated.
Looking ahead, He revealed plans to establish a joint law enforcement coordination center for the export control of dual-use items. Authorities will also publish a series of typical enforcement and judicial cases and add illegal foreign entities to the export control list.
Furthermore, guidelines for the compliant export of strategic minerals will be issued. Export companies are urged to conduct thorough due diligence to ensure these materials are not used for military purposes or by military users, reinforcing China’s commitment to lawful trade practices and national security.
