After several days of rain, the skies above the Bayanbulak Grassland in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region unveiled a breathtaking starry night on July 17, 2025. The grassland’s high altitude, minimal light pollution, and expansive horizons make it a paradise for stargazers.
Each summer, camping enthusiasts from all over flock to Bayanbulak to witness the celestial display. The area offers a rare opportunity to see the Milky Way stretching across the sky and to catch glimpses of meteor showers in pristine conditions.
“It’s like stepping into another world,” said Li Wei, a camper visiting from the Chinese mainland. “The stars here shine so brightly, it’s an unforgettable experience.”
Bayanbulak Grassland, known for its lush meadows and diverse wildlife, is the second-largest grassland in China. Besides stargazing, visitors can enjoy horseback riding, hiking, and immersing themselves in the rich local culture.
