Magnitude 4.2 Earthquake Strikes Northern China’s Shanxi Province

A magnitude 4.2 earthquake shook Xiangfen County of Linfen City in northern China’s Shanxi Province at 10:13 a.m. on Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

Residents reported feeling the tremors, though there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Local authorities are assessing the situation and have advised everyone to stay alert for possible aftershocks.

“I was at home when I felt a slight shaking,” said Li Wei, a resident of Xiangfen County. “It lasted only a few seconds, but it was noticeable.”

Earthquakes of this magnitude are considered light and typically cause minimal damage. However, they serve as a reminder of the region’s seismic activity and the importance of preparedness.

Shanxi Province, located in northern China, occasionally experiences earthquakes due to its geological features. The CENC has encouraged residents to familiarize themselves with safety procedures related to earthquakes.

For more information on earthquake safety, residents can contact local authorities or visit official resources.
