China and Peru have joined forces to bring “From the Great Wall to Machu Picchu” to the big screen, a captivating documentary that made its premiere in Lima on Friday. This collaborative project highlights the rich cultural tapestries of both nations by spotlighting two of the world’s most iconic landmarks.
Produced jointly by China Media Group (CMG), Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, and the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP), the documentary aims to bridge cultures and deepen understanding between the people of China and Peru.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, CMG President Shen Haixiong expressed his hope that the film would foster greater connection between the two countries. He echoed sentiments from Chinese President Xi Jinping, who recently wrote in a Peruvian newspaper that the friendship between China and Peru “is rooted in the wisdom of our ancient civilizations” and “has become stronger through China-Peru win-win cooperation.”
The documentary doesn’t just stop at Chinese and Spanish viewers—it will be broadcast in seven languages, including English, French, Arabic, Russian, and Quechua. In fact, China Global Television Network (CGTN), one of CMG’s branches, has launched a special Quechua page on social media, making Quechua the 81st language supported by CMG platforms.
Quechua, widely spoken across Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, holds a special place in the heart of the Andes and was declared an official language of Peru in 1975. By embracing Quechua, the documentary aims to reach even more viewers and celebrate the indigenous cultures that contribute to Peru’s rich heritage.
