China Media Group (CMG) has officially unveiled the theme and logo for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala, heralding the start of the Year of the Snake in late January 2025. The gala’s theme, “Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake” (“巳巳如意,生生不息”), extends an invitation to Chinese communities worldwide to join in the vibrant New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year, is rooted deeply in tradition. The Chinese lunar calendar operates on a 60-year cycle, intertwining 10 “Tiangan” and 12 “Dizhi” characters to represent each year. The upcoming Year of the Snake corresponds to the characters “乙巳,” symbolizing rebirth and continuity.
The newly released logo features two “巳” characters placed side by side. The left character stands upright, while the right is an upside-down mirror image. This design mirrors the traditional placement of a pair of ruyi—a decorative scepter symbolizing good fortune and the fulfillment of wishes in Chinese culture.
The combination of these elements not only highlights the rich cultural heritage but also embodies the gala’s main theme. The phrase “生生不息” signifies the endless cycle of life, echoing the enduring spirit of the festival and its celebrations.
As the Year of the Snake approaches, anticipation builds for the spectacular performances and cultural showcases that the Spring Festival Gala is renowned for. The event promises to unite families and friends, honoring traditions while embracing the future.
