Cmg Unveils Mascot of Its 2025 Spring Festival Gala

Meet ‘Si Shengsheng’: The New Mascot for 2025 Spring Festival Gala

CMG Introduces ‘Si Shengsheng’ for the Year of the Snake

China Media Group (CMG) has unveiled ‘Si Shengsheng,’ the official mascot for its 2025 Spring Festival Gala, bringing ancient charm and vibrant energy to one of the world’s most-watched television events.

Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese culture, ‘Si Shengsheng’ resembles the oracle bone script character “si” (巳), representing the snake in the Chinese zodiac. The mascot embodies the theme “Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake,” symbolizing vitality and the hope for dreams to come true.

A Blend of Tradition and Symbolism

‘Si Shengsheng’ is rich with cultural significance. The bat pattern on its forehead reflects the Chinese word for “bat,” which shares the same pronunciation as “blessing,” signifying good fortune. A “longevity” knot at the tip of its tail further emphasizes wishes for a long and prosperous life.

The design of its eyebrows and eyes draws from the feathered patterns and the ‘chen’ (臣) character motif found on ancient bronze snake-shaped vessels unearthed at the Sanxingdui Ruins in Sichuan Province. This motif, also present in bronze and jade artifacts from the central plains, highlights the diversity and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization.

Adorned with intricate Jingtailan patterns symbolizing endless vitality, ‘Si Shengsheng’ also features floral filigree outlining begonia, magnolia, peach blossom, and peony—flowers that represent the return of spring.

Embodying the Spirit of Spring

Predominantly green, the mascot captures the rejuvenating essence of spring. Its color palette is inspired by a rich tapestry of traditional Chinese hues, reflecting harmony with nature and renewal.

The Spring Festival Gala, known as “Chunwan,” is a cherished tradition in China, marking the Lunar New Year’s Eve with performances in music, dance, comedy, and drama. More than just entertainment, it signifies family reunions and the joyous welcoming of a new year.

Broadcast to over a billion viewers, the gala creates a shared experience that fosters unity and celebration. With ‘Si Shengsheng’ leading the festivities in 2025, audiences can look forward to a gala that honors tradition while infusing fresh energy into the New Year celebrations.
