Over 200 iconic pieces of Swiss design are dazzling audiences in China, marking the most comprehensive showcase of original Swiss designs the country has ever seen. Switzerland, famed for its cutting-edge innovation and topping the Global Innovation Index for more than a decade, is sharing its creative legacy with Chinese art enthusiasts.
One of the exhibition’s main attractions is the “Original Furniture” section. Here, visitors can admire 75 legendary furniture pieces that tell the story of Swiss craftsmanship’s journey from humble beginnings to global fame. From sleek chairs to innovative tables, these designs have shaped how we interact with everyday objects.
Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the “Most Beautiful Swiss Books” competition, the exhibition also features a collection of award-winning book designs. These stunning works highlight the artistry and attention to detail that have earned Swiss books international acclaim.
Adding a touch of history and inspiration, a special section is dedicated to Max Bill—an influential Swiss artist, designer, and educator. His furniture designs, vibrant posters, and rare limited-edition prints provide a glimpse into his creative genius and lasting impact on the design world.
This exhibition is more than just a display; it’s a cultural bridge ahead of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland in 2025. Jointly hosted by the Embassy of Switzerland in China and the Today Art Museum in Beijing, the “Swiss Design Classics” exhibition invites visitors to experience the fusion of Swiss innovation and Chinese appreciation.
Open to the public until January 12 next year, the exhibition will then embark on a tour to Nanjing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. It’s a must-see for young people intrigued by art, design, and the stories behind the masterpieces that influence our lives.
