Second Season of ‘In Search of Ancient China’ Dives Deeper into Underwater Mysteries

The second season of the documentary series “In Search of Ancient China” premiered on December 9, captivating audiences with its exploration of China’s rich underwater archaeological heritage. Jointly produced by China Media Group (CMG) and China’s National Cultural Heritage Administration, the series delves into remarkable discoveries from shipwrecks in the South China Sea and beyond.

Filmed at authentic archaeological sites, the production employs cutting-edge 4K UHD technology to reveal intricate details of artifacts that have been lost beneath the waves for centuries. Advanced techniques like artificial intelligence, 3D digital modeling, and micro-trace restoration bring ancient stories to life, immersing viewers in a journey through time.

Highlights include the exploration of significant shipwrecks such as the Nanhai No. 1 and ancient wrecks off the coast of Zhangzhou in Fujian Province. The series also sheds light on the Yangtze River Estuary No. 2 shipwreck and the remains of Chinese battleships from the First Sino-Japanese War, known in China as the Jiawu War.

By showcasing over 40 years of underwater archaeology in China, “In Search of Ancient China” captures pivotal moments and groundbreaking achievements.
