Phnom Penh lit up on Sunday evening as China and Cambodia joined hands to celebrate the People-to-People Exchange Year 2024 with a mesmerizing cultural show titled “The Golden Promise 2024”.
The iconic Chaktomuk Theater was the venue for this glittering event, where a troupe of Chinese artists from Wuxi City in Jiangsu Province shared the stage with Cambodian artists from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts. The collaboration showcased the rich traditions and cultures of both nations through music and dance.
Distinguished guests, including Cheam Yeap, the first vice president of Cambodia’s National Assembly, and Ek Sam Ol, president of the Cambodia-China Friendship Association, attended the event. Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin highlighted the significance of the occasion, expressing hope that the audience would gain a deep appreciation for Chinese culture and tradition.
“This event not only deepens cultural exchanges but also strengthens the traditional friendship between China and Cambodia,” Ambassador Wang said.
Over the course of two hours, spectators were treated to a diverse array of performances. Chinese artists enchanted the audience with traditional songs and dances, while Cambodian performers showcased the Royal Ballet, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, along with traditional music.
Audience members, particularly young people, were captivated by the show. “I loved watching the Chinese performances; they were so vibrant and taught me more about China’s beautiful culture,” said 25-year-old Keo Sreylin, a civil servant at the Ministry of Tourism.
Sokun Povneath, a senior student at the National University of Management, echoed her sentiments. “The show was diverse and interesting. It was great to see the differences and similarities between Chinese and Cambodian cultures,” he remarked.
The cultural show serves as a testament to the deepening ties between China and Cambodia, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding and friendship among nations.
