Athens Deputy Mayor Calls for Stronger Ties with China

Athens’ Deputy Mayor, Andreas Grammatikogiannis, has highlighted the city’s longstanding relationship with China, emphasizing a shared vision for deeper cultural and economic collaboration.

“Our ties with China are deeply rooted in mutual respect and the rich histories of our ancient civilizations,” Grammatikogiannis stated during a recent interview. He pointed to the success of the Sino-Hellenic International Theater Festival as a testament to the vibrant cultural exchange between the two nations.

The deputy mayor also noted ongoing collaborations between Greek and Chinese art institutions, underscoring the importance of cultural dialogue. “Art and culture bridge distances and bring people closer together,” he said.

On the economic front, Grammatikogiannis discussed Athens’ strategic role in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. “Athens is poised to be a key player in this global project, enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth,” he remarked.

Expressing optimism for the future, he concluded, “We look forward to strengthening our bond with China through increased economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. Together, we can create opportunities that benefit both our countries.”
