Moroccan Ambassador Highlights Deep Tea Ties with China

Morocco’s Ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari, recently highlighted the profound cultural connection between Morocco and China through their shared love of green tea. Speaking at the “UniTea: Macao Tea Melody” program, hosted by CGTN and CRI Online, El Ansari emphasized how Chinese green tea, introduced to Morocco in the 18th century, has become an iconic part of Moroccan culture.

“Chinese green tea is not just a drink in Morocco; it’s a symbol of our friendship and shared history,” El Ansari remarked. “We are proud to be the world’s largest importer of Chinese green tea, bringing in over 70,000 tons annually.”

The ambassador’s comments coincide with the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China. He extended warm wishes for the success of the “UniTea” program, highlighting its role in fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

The shared tea traditions between Morocco and China underscore the longstanding ties between the two nations. For many young people in both countries, tea serves as a bridge connecting their heritage and future collaborations.
