Cmg Series Explores Chinese Civilization Through Ancient Slips

New Season of ‘Exploring China’ Dives Into Ancient Bamboo and Wooden Slips

The highly anticipated second season of Exploring China Through Bamboo and Wooden Slips has premiered on CCTV-1, offering viewers a fresh lens into ancient Chinese civilization. Produced by China Media Group, the series ingeniously blends physical stage settings with cutting-edge special effects, creating a multidimensional experience that brings historical artifacts to life.

In the debut episode, the spotlight shines on the Tsinghua Bamboo Slips—a remarkable collection of nearly 2,500 pieces dating back to the mid-Warring States Period (475 B.C.–221 B.C.). Unearthed from a tomb in the ancient Kingdom of Chu, these slips are now meticulously preserved by Tsinghua University. They offer invaluable insights into the cultural and political landscape of their time.

The second episode transports viewers to the Han Dynasty (202 B.C.–220 A.D.), focusing on over 100 wooden slips discovered in a tomb in Yinwan Village, Lianyungang City, in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province. These artifacts provide a rare glimpse into the daily life and governance during one of China’s most influential dynasties.

A standout feature of this season is the introduction of “script readers.” This innovative role allows hosts to engage directly with historical figures through imaginative dialogues, making the exploration of history more interactive and engaging. These script readers act as companions, guiding audiences on an immersive journey through time.

By merging advanced storytelling techniques with rich historical content, Exploring China Through Bamboo and Wooden Slips invites a new generation to delve into the depths of China’s ancient heritage.
