An event featuring interactive performances of traditional Chinese arts recently took place in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, inviting international friends to immerse themselves in China’s rich cultural heritage ahead of the upcoming Spring Festival—the most significant holiday in Chinese culture.
Attendees experienced a variety of traditional arts, including paper-cutting, a long-spouted teapot tea ceremony, and a fan dance incorporating Tai Chi movements. Staff from a local folklore museum provided explanations of Spring Festival traditions in both Chinese and English, fostering deeper understanding and appreciation among people from different backgrounds.
Anna, from Poland, has been living in Beijing with her family for several years. She was among over 50 participants from 18 countries, including Germany, the UK, Russia, and Thailand. Along with her Chinese husband and their child, Anna enthusiastically took part in the folk culture activities. Seeing the vivid dough sculpture of a little green snake in her child’s hand, she exclaimed with delight, “It’s pretty!”
“I’m passionate about traditional Chinese culture and always encourage my child’s learning of it,” Anna said. “Being able to participate in this event is a fantastic experience for children.”
